James Diaz-Barriga, Chief Executive Officer

James is an OIF/OEF Nuclear Navy veteran with experience working with construction-based companies, both in industry and while at a private equity firm. He acquired and has been running Dark Horse Companies since 2021.

James enjoys his children’s sports and serves as a board member for both Men of Valor, a men’s prison ministry, and the State of TN Board of Medical Examiners.

Kenny Baird, Client Relations Advisor

Kenny served as the General Manager of the LaFollette Utilities Board, a municipal power, water, and wastewater utility located in East TN for 30 years before retiring in 2024. He has served on many boards and industry-related committees, including the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association and the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association.

His hobbies include running, playing musical instruments, and golfing.

Grant Carriker, Vice President of Operations

Grant graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2007 and subsequently served in the Army as a Field Artillery Officer. After retirement, Grant joined the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga as the Manager of Electric Construction and Maintenance.

Grant enjoys participating in his children’s sports activities, golf, and travel. He has served on the Chattanooga Military Officers Association of America board, and the technical advisory board for the Southeastern Lineman Training Center. 

 

Harrison Edwards, Vice President of Finance 

Harrison brings experience across public accounting, finance, and private equity. He developed a passion for building businesses in his most recent role as Jones Capital Corporate Controller.

Harrison holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting from the University of Mississippi and is a Certified Public Accountant. He was recognized as a Mississippi CPA Bronze Medalist and served on the Young MS CPA board.

Outside of work, Harrison enjoys exercising and spending time on yard projects.

 

Dewayne Bales, Vice President of ROW Operations

Starting his career at 19, Dewayne has dedicated his professional life to vegetation management. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration, safety, and long-term growth — both for his teams and the communities he serves.

Dewayne is active in his community, volunteering as both a youth sports coach and referee. You can also find him outdoors hunting, fishing, or playing softball. 

 

Steven Childers, Director of Operations

After serving as an Infantry Sergeant in the United States Army, Steven transitioned into the power line industry where over the past ten years he built a career through hands-on field experience, leadership, and operational excellence.

In his free time Steven enjoys his daughters’ volleyball games, shooting, and drone operations.
